How to Download Instagram Reels

Updated January 2026 · 4 min read

Instagram doesn't include a built-in "save to device" option for Reels, so if you want to keep a copy on your phone or computer, you need a separate tool. This guide walks through the whole process, from copying the link to saving the finished file.

What you'll need

Just the link to the Reel and a browser. No app installation, login, or account connection is required.

Step 1: Open the Reel in the Instagram app

Find the Reel you want to save, either from your feed, a profile, or the Reels tab. Tap it to open the full view.

Step 2: Copy the link

Tap the three-dot menu (or the paper-airplane share icon, depending on your app version) and select "Copy link." Instagram copies the Reel's URL to your clipboard.

Step 3: Paste the link into the Reels Downloader

Head to our Reels Downloader and paste the link into the input field.

Step 4: Click download and save

Click the download button. Once the video is ready, save it to your camera roll on mobile or your downloads folder on desktop. The saved file keeps its original resolution, with no watermark added.

A note on quality and watermarks

Some third-party apps compress video or stamp a watermark over the download. A downloader that pulls the original file avoids both problems, so it's worth checking the output before relying on a tool for anything important.

Is this legal?

Downloading a Reel for personal viewing is generally fine, but reposting someone else's content without permission raises separate copyright questions. See our guide on whether it's legal to download Instagram videos for the full picture.
